Rumors of the Apple’s new mini slate are all over the gadget arena. What is it going to look like? What will it feature? Will it be able to compete with other small tablets? When will it release? All these questions still remain unanswered.
But why is even Apple up to releasing this new small sized tablet, as its late owner and founder Steve Jobs openly criticized them by saying, “The 10in screen size is the minimum size required to create great tablet apps. 7-inch tablets are tweeners: too big to compete with a smartphone, and too small to compete with an iPad.” Maybe Apple changed its heart because of the massive amount of profits these small 7-inch tablets are making. Let’s look at all these speculations on the iPad mini (or whatever it will be called) and try and figure out what it may likely be presenting.
What specs would the iPad Mini would feature?
Resolution- The iPad Mini would likely feature a 7.85-inch screen. According to the rumors the iPad Mini would not have the retina display like the new iPad but whether it would feature the same 1024×768 pixel resolution of the iPad 2 or something else still remain unrequited.
Storage Options- What storage capacities could the iPad Mini offer? Apple’s full sized iPads so far have been posing storage options in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants. But considering the fact that most of the 7-inch tablets feature 8GB or even lesser storage options, the iPad mini could also witness a change.
Cost- How much would the iPad mini cost? According to some rumors, the iPad mini would cost the same as the iPad 2, at around $399. But that seems quite a lot because most of the 7-inch tablets cost only around $200. At $199, tablets like the Google Nexus 7 offer you a lot of power and amazing features. So if the iPad Mini wants to give a sure competition to other 7-inch tablets it should keep its price within the same range. We thus assume that the iPad Mini would cost somewhere around $199- $399.
Compromises- Since the iPad mini should cost lower than what Apple Products have been costing so far to be able to compete with other 7-inch budget tablets, it might have to compromise on some features like the network capabilities, maybe no 3G or 4G wireless. Or maybe a downgraded camera or the new iPad might not feature the Apple’s latest A6 processor. Or if Apple is determined to provide ace computing with this one like it did with its other Apple products, it might just make it fully featured but then all that will also affect its price.
Some more speculations- The iPad Mini might not actually be called the iPad mini, Apple might just give it another name. Also like the iPod Touch 5th gen, the iPad Mini could feature candy colors, though these candy colors will not benefit it in any way, they might just add that newer variety which just looks better. The iPad mini could also pose additional accessories like the iPad 2’s smart cover or may be an external keyboard like the Microsoft Surface.
