Google’s own operating system Android has reached a very formidable place in the industry . It has become such that only iOS and Android devices take 90 % of the total market share. Both the operating systems are constantly competing with each other to see which one comes in top.
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean brought some great improvements into the OS such as ‘Project Butter’ which offers 60fps and Google’s own , awesome , voice assistant , Google Now . It also brought offline typing into the arena , something which is quite revolutionary.
Android can certainly be improved in many ways and here we highlight the top features on our wish list
Starting from the bottom -5 . A smoother , easier to use experience.
iOS is extremely smooth and offers a great experience. The Jelly Bean update has bean able to successfully match the smoothness of iOS with Project Butter which brings 60fps into the game. We want android to step up their game further. An absolutely lovely , silky smooth experience with no slow downs is what we yearn for. Also , another reason , iOS is preferred for newer users is its ease of use , we wish that Android have different modes – depending on the usage . What an exquisite feature is what this would be. A beginner , intermediate and a pro mode , for different kind of users would definitely improve its reach.
4. Gesture led interface.
The S3 offers amazing features utilizing in an amazing , innovative way , the proximity and ambient light sensors . The phone becomes smarter , tenfold. Also , it will make the phone feel more natural and intuitve. Phablets ( The Note ) would especially be benefitted by this , with multi finger touchscreen interfaces for a variety of tasks .
3. A complete UI overhaul.
The android definitely needs a proper UI overhaul as they have maintained the same look since quite a long time . Sure , the Ice cream Sandwich update changed the UI a bit , making it look much better , however , we would love it if Android introduced something new , such as the Windows Phone UI . Also , something that made it easier to use , much easier.
2. Voice , with enhanced features and broader accessibility.
An update to Google Now allowing it to do everything – launch apps , play specific music , play movies , everything else , just by the sound of the your voice. Also , if Google Now would be able to give smart answers and display scores of more sports , we would be greatly overjoyed. Also , more things could be done offline , with voice , like texting and launching apps from Google Now . Also , more language packs for offline typing would be greatly appreciated.
1. More efficient multitasking and related innovation.
Android already has efficient multitasking and more importantly , TRUEmultitasking . However , this leads , sometimes , to the whole UI becoming laggy and somewhat non – responsive at times. An efficient multitasking mechanism would definitely uplift the android experience . Also , innovations like a clipboard with multiple copy which would allow more than one piece of text etc. would be a great relief to bloggers and social networkers.Rumours suggest that Key Lime Pie will be coming this November on the LG Optimus Nexus G , a leaked device , but remember , these are just rumours.

Since when is android difficult to use? I found it bafflingly hard to use my iPad in any productive way. I think you may be confusing options for difficulty. I’ll take dedicated buttons with defined purpose over a single button you have to use Morse code on any day. Not trolling, just throwing in my two cents. Well written post, its always welcome to see differing opinions!
I agree with your point of view completely. I too find it very easy to use over iOS , however that is not the case with the general public. This is a reason iOS is selling better. If we had different modes for different users offering different difficulty levels , this problem would be solved almost entirely. And that morse code joke , loved that
I think the main draw for the general public is lack of research pre-purchase. There are hundreds of android handsets out there, but only one iPhone per year. They know what to expect out of an iPhone while the androids vary wildly with specs and OEM skins. Hence why I love my galaxy nexus, pure Google baby! The new RAZR m has a new user mode like you’re talking about from what I’ve seen. Not a bad idea by any means!
Lack of research would definitely be a major factor. Galaxy Nexus ? I’m on a rooted SGSII running JB 4.1.1
Loved your article ! It’s amazing ! That is exactly how I want android to be !!
rather odd comment about the UI maintaining the same look for a long time when the android UI is actually the most evolving of the OSes in the market. every iteration of android has improved upon the UI – from the notification bar to the static icon drawer along the bottom, to the internal settings and menus and buttons and so on. the power of android has always been customization of your homescreens, so you can do whatever u want with widgets/apps. if u r looking for the look and use of windows phone 8, might as well jump boat (nothing wrong with that) or use a custom skin/mod.
What I meant to say is that , despite the fact that we all love android’s UI and customization , android could take a huge leap ahead and introduce something that absolutely blows away the other OS’s
